The STARLAB honorarium program . . .

About the STARLAB Workshop Honorarium Program

Many teachers have discovered the wonders of the universe along with their students in a STARLAB Portable Planetarium. These educators know that STARLAB’s versatility makes it a fascinating tool for teaching astronomy, earth science, mythology, biology, multicultural studies, and more at every level. They also know the interest and excitement it brings to their students.

We, at Learning Technologies, are constantly striving to further expand the universe by making STARLAB known and available to more teachers and students. Enthusiastic users of the STARLAB — teachers — are one of the best resources we have to accomplish this goal, by teaching other educators through workshops and similar programs. To reward teachers who help us spread the word, LTI has devised the STARLAB Honorarium Program.

This program is designed to help defray some of the costs of travel and of attending conventions. It is our way of saying thank you for helping to convey the concepts and excitement of science by using a STARLAB Portable Planetarium.

How to Apply
  • Submit the proposal for the workshop to the sponsoring group. (Some sponsors such as NSTA require reference to a 'portable planetarium' rather than the product name, 'STARLAB'.)
  • Click here to download the STARLAB Workshop Forms which include these written guidelines, the STARLAB Honorarium Application, and an attendee sign-up sheet. Complete the application and submit it for pre-approval to:
    Reed Varian
    Learning Technologies, Inc.
    40 Cameron Avenue
    Somerville, MA 02144
    Fax: 330-488-0928
    • Once we have received and reviewed your completed application, we will contact you to discuss your approval status and how we are able to help.
    • After the convention you are expected to:
      • Send us a typed list of your workshop attendees including their name, complete address, phone and e-mail address.
      • Send us a photocopy of the page in the convention program which lists the description of your workshop.
      • Send us the total number of people who attended the convention.
      • Send us a summary of any comments or feedback about STARLAB and/or your workshop from the participants.
    • Compensation for presenting a standard 45-minute (minimum) STARLAB workshop at a state, regional, or national conference and meeting the above criteria is $250.
    Eligibility Requirements
    • Inservice teacher training does not qualify for the honorarium. (Other kinds of workshops may qualify. Call to discuss your specific workshop details.)
    • In order to pay your honorarium, we are required to get your home address and social security number for tax purposes. Please provide these when you send us participant names/addresses and other information.
    • Learning Technologies is sometimes able to provide a STARLAB system for major regional or national conventions such as NSTA. Please call to arrange this at least three months in advance.
    • Promotional materials and sign up sheets will be provided upon request. Each participant will be sent an information packet with color brochures, prices, funding information etc., after we receive their name and address.
